The Child Development Policy Institute was founded in 1993 as a spin-off of the long-established advocacy organization, The Children's Lobby. Today, CDPI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of California's children and their families through bi-partisan public policy advocacy. CDPI's mission is to ensure California's children get a quality early education and become successful and productive citizens that will continue to build California's social and economic vitality.
CDPI has become a leader in the early care and education field on fiscal and policy matters and a principal advocate for children and families in the State budget process. CDPI not only retains a lobbyist, but also holds two policy events each year, providing the early care and education field with the latest information directly from the policymakers. We also maintain an extensive email Listserv and provide information through email bulletins and action alerts to child advocates, policymakers, and others. Through its vast network, CDPI is able to mobilize advocates to take action in communicating with legislators, the Governor, and other policy or administrative decision makers.
Known for its timely information and insightful analysis, CDPI has built a reputation with both sides of the aisle and is a respected voice for children in Sacramento. CDPI has no membership affiliation and seeks only to advance its mission.
